Gerald McBoing-Boing

DIRECTOR; Cookie Jar Entertainment/Mercury Filmworks

Originally written by Dr. Seuss, Gerald McBoing-Boing tells the story of a boy who cannot speak words, but communicates by making sound effects. For this series, our aim was to preserve Seuss' signature quirky tone. The original United Productions of America (UPA) short film from 1950 had a visual style that was perfect for Flash-style animation!

We structured the show a bit like a TV comedy-variety series, but for a pre-school audience! Short scenes of Gerald at play in the "real" world, comedic fantasy fairy-tales narrated in Seussian rhyme, and silly sound bites were created in kid-sized servings for our audience.

This collaboration with the writers is typical of my approach to directing. I have particular passion for shaping a project from the very beginning and seeing it through to the very end.
